NSW Launches Nomination Pathways for National Innovation Visa

New South Wales (NSW) has officially opened its doors to global innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and creatives — through its newly launched nomination program for the National Innovation Visa (NIV). This announcement marks a major shift in how exceptional talent can migrate to Australia.

If you’re already delivering impact in your field, whether in research, business, investment, sports or the arts, this could be your direct route to Australian Permanent Residency, without needing a job offer, sponsorship, or points test.

What Is the National Innovation Visa?

The NIV is a permanent residency pathway designed for global talent with a proven record of achievement. Unlike traditional skilled migration pathways, it targets individuals whose work already demonstrates international excellence, innovation, or economic impact.

Now, NSW joins other jurisdictions in offering state nomination — helping eligible individuals fast-track their PR journey through invitation-based selection and endorsement.

What’s New in the NSW Nomination Framework?

The NSW government has introduced a clear and selective structure, opening five tailored pathways:

1. Academic & Research Leaders

   For researchers and scholars making internationally recognised contributions in science, tech, humanities or applied fields.

2. Entrepreneurs

   For founders of innovative startups or scaleups with a demonstrated track record of commercial or societal impact.

3. Innovative Investors

   For experienced investors driving high-growth, high-impact Australian ventures or funds aligned with NSW’s priorities.

4. Creative Professionals

   For elite artists, producers, designers, or digital creatives whose work is recognised at a global or national level.

5. Sports Professionals

   For athletes, coaches, or performance staff achieving success in high-performance or elite international sport.

How It Works

This is not a general application round — NSW will only consider Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from outstanding individuals, based on:

• Independent expert endorsement

• Alignment with one of the five target pathways

• Tangible impact of your work or innovation

• National or international recognition

This approach focuses on real-world impact — not academic intent or future plans.

Once endorsed and nominated, successful candidates will be prioritised (Priority 2) by the Department of Home Affairs under the National Innovation Visa stream.
